Dry Needling

Dry needling

Dry needling is a treatment technique in which a physiotherapist uses a fine needle to target tight muscles and trigger points.
Trigger points are sensitive areas of tension within a muscle that may cause both local and referred pain.
By carefully inserting the needle into these points, the muscle may briefly contract before relaxing.

The treatment may help reduce muscle pain and stiffness, improve mobility and restore normal muscle function. Dry needling can be used for a variety of conditions, including neck and shoulder pain, headaches originating from the neck, back pain, arm and hip complaints, and persistent muscle tension.

Dry needling is not the same as acupuncture. The treatment targets specific muscles and is performed following a thorough physiotherapy assessment. When appropriate, dry needling may be combined with exercises, postural or movement advice, and other physiotherapy techniques. This approach aims not only to relieve symptoms but also to support lasting recovery.

During treatment, the muscle may respond with a brief contraction or twitch. Afterwards, the treated area may temporarily feel heavy or sore. This usually resolves naturally within 24 hours.

Are you experiencing tight muscles, recurring pain or restricted movement? Karla will assess your symptoms and discuss whether dry needling may be a suitable addition to your treatment.
